SUBJECT OLG Model Social Media Policy

(a) That Council adopt the attached draft Office of Local Government Model Social Media Policy (draft Policy) with the following amendments:
a) 1.1 – City of Parramatta Council
b) 3.8 - 14 days
c) 3.14 - adopt
d) 3.15 a.28 days and b.14 days
e) 7.3 delete
(b) That Council provide additional education to interested Councillors regarding best practice social media principles.
(c) Further, that Council delegate to the Chief Executive Officer to amend the following sections:
a) 2.16
b) 2.21 annually
c) 2.22
d) Part 5
e) 6.1
f) Part 8
g) 9.1
to options 1 or 2 of the draft Policy that are relevant to Council’s ‘official’ social media platforms.
BACKGROUND
1. No background is provided.
STAFF RESPONSE
1. Council Officers have identified Council’s
Social Media Policy as a ‘priority’ policy to be reviewed, in
accordance with the ‘Priority Policy Review Program’ endorsed by
the Executive Team in August 2022. The ‘Priority Policy Review
Program’ is anticipated to be reported to Council in the coming meetings
for endorsement.
2. Council Officers appreciate the request to fast-track the review of this policy and support the adoption of the draft Office of Local Government Model Social Media Policy with the amendments outlined in recommendation (a) above. It is recommended that Council expand its recommendation in part (c) above to delegate authority to the CEO to amend those sections of the draft Model Policy (as per recommendation (c) above) and to make any other amendments deemed necessary to the Policy to meet Council’s objectives before finalisation.
3. Should Council delegate authority to the CEO to finalise the Policy, consultation will be undertaken with key staff, legal, governance, the Internal Ombudsman Shared Services and Executive Team before presenting the to the Policy Review Committee for consultation prior to finalisation by the CEO.
FINANCIAL AND RESOURCE IMPLICATIONS
4. There are no budget or resourcing implications in undertaking this task.
