Comments
The representative for Tony Issa, MP
informed the Committee that the local community is concerned about the safety
of school children crossing
The representative for RMS advised
the Committee of the warrants required (normal and special) for installation of
a pedestrian crossing. A Pedestrian
Crossing that does not meet the warrants may provide pedestrians with a false sense
of security and compromises their safety. The representative advised that there
is a range of treatments available, such as pedestrian refuge islands and
signalised crossings and that TEAG should investigate which is the most suitable
option.
Clr Bide supported the request for a
pedestrian crossing and informed the Committee that the local community does
not feel comfortable in crossing
Rosehill Police expressed concern
about speed and supported Clr Bide’s comments regarding pedestrians currently
not crossing
The representative for RMS informed
the Committee that a detailed site analysis should be undertaken to provide
information on the pedestrian catchment and pedestrian travel patterns in the
area.
The representative for Tony Issa, MP
supported the suggestion that residents do not cross
Councillor Wilson supported the community’s
desire to have a pedestrian crossing, but noted that pedestrian crossings can
provide a false sense of safety.
Recommendation
from the Traffic Engineering Advisory Group:
The Police and RMS representatives voted:
That traffic and pedestrian counts be
undertaken in
Councillor Bide and Tony Issa, MP
voted:
That a pedestrian crossing be
installed in Clyde Street between Boronia Street and Byrnes Street, South
Granville.
