It is also an occasion to honour the courage, endurance, and sacrifice of those who have served their countries.

BACKGROUND

1.     A formal event to celebrate the Bicentenary of Hambledon Cottage was held on Saturday 13 April. This community event was owned and hosted by the Parramatta and District Historical Society (PDHS) with support provided by City of Parramatta. Approximately 1800 people attended the event, including Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC, Governor of NSW and Patron of the Parramatta and District Historical Society.

2.     The PDHS is to be congratulated for the success of the event, which included stalls, food offerings, live performances, tours (including a new exhibition), displays by local groups and more. The PDHS also ran a week-long program of historic talks and walks at the cottage along with children’s activities during the school holidays, which proved popular with the community.

3.     The PDHS has officially acknowledged the work of City of Parramatta (CoP) staff who supported the event including CoP’s Civic Events and Major Events teams. In particular, the work of staff from the CBD Operations, Trades and Cleansing Services Teams, who went ‘above and beyond’ in helping to prepare the Hambledon Cottage site and surrounds for the event following significant storm damage the week prior, including repairing and re-painting seating and benches in the cottage compound.

4.     At the event Her Excellency unveiled a commemorative plaque and signed and gifted a new PDHS book to Council. The limited-edition print book, ‘Celebrating 200 Years, Hambledon Cottage – A House History: It’s Evolution-Occupation-Activation 1924-2024’ has been received by CoP’s Research & Collection services team.

FROM                       Jen Andrews

My name is Jennifer and I am a local resident.

I live here in Parramatta and have done so for the last 7 years.

As I was here on the 8th of April.

In support of the notice of motion subject number 14.1 to END the no grounds

evictions.

I am here again for the same reason.

“I am seeking help from you all”

To help put pressure on the state government to deliver what they promised and that is to end “no grounds eviction”.

I’m sure you are aware of statistics and are aware of the impact that no grounds evictions has on families.

Or perhaps I should ask the question have you actually ever been impacted and been

evicted from your place!? “on a No grounds eviction”?

From what I witnessed at the last meeting I attended, and I will say it was very

disappointing and disheartening.

I assume NO!!!

You haven’t been impacted by no grounds eviction.

In fact it appears many of you own properties.

Multiple properties!.

Or too scared and don’t want too be apart of this debate and worried on being outted.

By your co councillors.

Many of you councillors are landlords yourself and have multiple investments

properties that you rent out.

So why would you want to help me in my fight against the state government to bring in what they promised.

And that is ……

too END “no grounds evictions”

By you helping putting pressure on the state government are you shooting yourselves in the foot.

Am I wrong for making this assumption!?!?

As a landlord you like having the power to just kick your tenant out when it suits you.

Why would you help be apart of that change, that would take “that” control away from

yourselves.

Well my answer to that is you are elected to sit here tonight to help make changes in our community.

Not just on topics that you benefit from but all topics.

And as a resident in this local government area I am asking you to please help me!.

You would not be only helping me with ending the no grounds evictions, You would also be helping many people.

There is a Facebook page called do not rent me!.

It has 82,000 members.

Do not rent me is a social media platform where dozens and dozen of people write

about their own personal experiences on being treated poorly and receiving a no ground evictions notice, on a daily basis.

I was personally impacted myself.

Receiving a no ground evictions as part of a retaliatory eviction.

Because I asked to have my stove fixed.

And as I speak to you right now.

I currently do not have a celling in my laundry.

Mind you I have never missed paying a rent and I have no breaches against my name, And I have paid $118,000 in rent to reside at my residence.

I took my “no ground eviction” to NCAT and I won the case.

It was found by NCAT to be a false!.

“No grounds eviction” and to be a retaliatory eviction.

It was a retaliation eviction because I asked for repairs.

After winning my NCAT hearing on the no grounds eviction I had my rent increased by 33%.

This is happening all around NSW and Australian and this will continue to happen unless changes are made.

Realtor are doing what they like and they are getting away with it.

This is having a negative impact on our housing crisis.

Receiving a no grounds eviction also has a massive impact on your mental health,

But I won’t go into that topic because that is all taboo.

While I attended the last councillor meeting on the 8th of April I witnessed a particular councillor say why are we even talking about this, this is a state

issue!!!.

I was gobsmacked.

While yes this is a state issue…..!

I as a local member in our community under the local parramatta city council I am

asking you to please put pressure on the state government to act on their promises to END the “no grounds eviction”.

I am only asking for help in something that the state government has already promised too do, but failed too deliver.

You think I’m here, because I’m a pheasant?!

No!!

I’m here because we need to set what is right from wrong.

And what has been in the pipeline for some time and is in the making.

I have already been in contact with other ministers, but I am just a tiny ant in the broken system.

And unless Parramatta city council elects to help out and put pressure on the state

government and ministers this topic will fall on deaths ears for the time being.

This End “no grounds eviction” will eventually come into place.

It’s just a matter of if you choose to become a part of the change or choose to walk out again.

It was noted in the Sydney morning herald.

The notice of motion 14.1 page 470 from the last council meeting on the 8th of April.

The debate didn’t go ahead as 10 out 14 walked out.

“Because of your conflict of interest”

Please don’t make this into a mockery again.

Kind regards

Jennifer

Note:

Also in my absence if I can’t make it tonight because of other commitments I give

permission for councillor Kellie Darley to read this on my behalf.
