Election
of Lord Mayor
The CEO
indicated that he had received 2 nominations for Lord Mayor and sought advice
as to whether any further nominations were to be submitted.
There being no further nominations, the CEO advised that the nominations he had received for Lord
Mayor, in alphabetical order, were:-
(1) Councillor P Esber and
(2) Councillor P J Garrard
The CEO then
advised that as a ballot was required, Council needed to determine the method
of election.
RESOLVED (Wilson/Wearne
)
That
the method of voting for election of Lord Mayor and Deputy Lord Mayor proceed
by open ballot in accordance with the provisions of Schedule 7 of the Local
Government (General) Regulations 2005.
An open ballot (show of hands) was then held
for the election of Lord Mayor and the following votes were recorded:-
Councillor P Esber - 6 votes
Councillor P J Garrard - 9 votes
The CEO then declared Councillor P J Garrard duly elected as
Lord Mayor for the next 12 months.
NOTE During consideration of this matter, the Chamber
observed 1 minute’s silence as a mark of respect to the victims and those who
had suffered misfortune as a result of the tsunami which occurred this
morning in the South Pacific.
Election of Deputy Lord Mayor
The Lord Mayor, Councillor P J Garrard assumed
the Chair and handed the meeting over to the CEO to conduct the election for the Deputy Lord Mayor.
The CEO indicated
that he had received 2 nominations for Deputy Lord Mayor and sought advice as
to whether any further nominations were to be submitted.
There being no further nominations, the CEO advised that the nominations he had received for Deputy
Lord Mayor, in alphabetical order, were:-
1 Councillor J D Finn and
2 Councillor C X Lim
The CEO then
advised that voting would proceed in accordance with the earlier resolution
(Minute No 11031 refers).
A open ballot (show of hands) was held and
the following votes were recorded:-
Councillor J D Finn - 6
votes
Councillor C X Lim - 9 votes
The CEO then declared Councillor C X Lim duly elected as the
Deputy Lord Mayor for the next 12 months.
RESOLVED (Wilson/Lloyd)
(a) That the Director-General of the
Department of Local Government and Secretary of the Local Government and
Shire Associations be advised of the result of the election.
(b) Further,
that surrounding Councils be advised of the result of the election.
