MINUTES OF THE
PARRAMATTA CYCLEWAYS COMMITTEE HELD IN THE BOARDROOM, LEVEL 12, ADMINISTRATION
BUILDING, 30 DARCY STREET, PARRAMATTA ON TUESDAY, 26
PRESENT
Pam Kendrick, Nick Urbanik, Maureen Walsh
and Brian Ford.
IN ATTENDANCE
Leanne Sutcliffe (Committee Clerk), Neville
Davis (Service Manager Open Space & Natural
Resources, Myfanwy Lawrence (Project Officer, Transport Planning) and David
Gray (Senior Project Officer, Transport Planning).
APOLOGIES
An apology was received and accepted for the
absence of Councillor Glenn Elmore, John Holstein, Antony DeVries and John
Macindoe.
Resignations of Andrew Cooper and Robert
Catford were also noted.
CONFLICT OF INTEREST
There
were no conflicts of interest at this meeting.
BUSINESS ARISING
79/09 Federal
Grant –
Neville Davis advised an onsite meeting occurred two weeks
ago with residents and the major
concerns raised were about the bike path running across their property frontage
and having concrete kerb to frontage. Close consultation has also been carried
out with the local councillors, senior management, Julie Owens MP and the
Premier’s Toongabbie electoral office staff.
The tenders for the Stage 1 section through
the parkland corridor have been approved at the recent Council meeting.
80/09 Cycleway
through
Neville Davis advised these works were completed a few months ago and the
committee were informed by email.
81/09 Charles St Ferry Wharf to
This $ 1.1M
project along the southern side of

Myfanwy Lawrence
advised that as of March 09 a consultant had been contracted to undertake a
feasibility study of the section from
82/09
Parramatta Valley Cycleway -
Council is seeking
funding for the stretch from
83/09 Parramatta
Valley Cycleway - Ermington boardwalk
Myfanwy Lawrence
advised that Council has engaged a consultant to look at the possibilities of
installing a 2.5 metres aluminium boardwalk / nature trail. This area does contain salt marsh and
mangroves so this impact on the construction of the boardwalk.
84/09 Heritage
Develop a Heritage
loop or shared path around the city centre, from the stadium side to the Marsden
Street Weir.
Brian Ford asked
if there would be a link from
85/09 Secure
parking for bicycles
Council is looking
into paid parking for bicycles. Have already identified spaces available in
86/09 2009/10
Projects
§ Neville Davis circulated a copy
of a recent email issued to John Holstein ,Pam Kendrick, and some other
committee members regarding the prolonged closure of the cycleway along the
Parramatta River foreshore in front of the Department of Defence former naval
site which is under staged redevelopment for residential housing. (Refer to
email)
§ Investigation of
bike routes in the
§ Council is working
on a 2 year program plan, first year to plan and second year to construct.
§ South Street
Parramatta Valley Cycleway needs to be upgraded to current RTA standards.
§ Harris Park to
Granville along Alfred Street requires updating.
§ Pam Kendrick raised
an issue with the footpath down Martha Street. Myfanwy Lawrence requested that
Pam email her with this issue.
§ Neville Davis sent
out detailed email to committee regarding current status on naval site. (Refer
to email)
87/09 Terms
of Reference for Cycleways Committee
Myfanwy Lawrence advised
that expression of interests for committees will be advertised in the local
paper shortly. This will be the last meeting the EOI process begins to form the
new Committee.
Members advised of the new cycling email for
council - cycling@parraicty.nsw.gov.au
